Introduction

The Government of Indonesia is pleased to host the World Coral Reef Conference (WCRC) 2014 on 14 – 17 May 2014 in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Bearing the theme of “Coral Reef for Sustainable Fisheries, Food Security and Eco-Friendly Business”, the objective of the World Coral Reef Conference (WCRC) 2014 is to implement, to formulate, to stock take, to synchronize and to establish policies and concrete actions in the management and utilization of coral reef resources.

Furthermore, the WCRC 2014 aims to identify and to develop shared values, perception and purpose in the preservation and maintenance of coral reef ecosystems as a world heritage to be inherited for future generations.

Participation of key countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Timor Leste, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia and the United States is expected as well as attendance by international organizations and NGOs, scientists and academics to share knowledge and experience of local coral reef ecosystems management in order to be applied in other regions.

During the conference, the delegations will discuss each other’s best practices, methods, approaches, knowledge, science and latest technology applied for coral reef resources utilization and preservation.

Highlights of the conference will include opening by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, remarks by high level speakers and interactive discussion amongst experts and academics.

Key Dates for Media Accreditation

21 April 2014   : Media registration online open
10 May 2014   : Media registration online closed,
 at 16.00, Jakarta Time
13 – 14 May 2014 : Issuance of ID pass





Registration Process:

All media representatives interested in covering the events must register using the prescribed Media Registration Form available on www.kemlu.go.id

Fill in the Media Registration Form and attach soft copies of the following documents:
Letter of assignment from the editor/executive of the media;
A form of identification – KTP for locals or passport for non Indonesian citizens – that is valid for at least six months;
A recent digital passport-sized photograph (minimal resolution 400 x 600)

E-mail the completed form along with soft copies of the required documents (mentioned in no.2 above) to wcrc2014.media@gmail.com

For successful media accreditation, an e-mail notification will be sent to confirm your accreditation together with a unique ID number.






Visa Requirement (Foreign Journalists)

Applicants who are not based in Indonesia are required to print and bring along the copy of the confirmation letter to apply for a journalist visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy/Representative Office (http://www.kemlu.go.id/Pages/Mission.aspx?l=id)

The application will be processed in accordance to applicable regulation, please note that confirmation letter does not guarantee issuance of Visa.

Customs Clearance Requirement

The list of equipments that will be brought in and out by applicants must be legalized by the nearest Indonesian Embassy/Representative office for importation and exportation purposes.

Issuance of Accreditation Pass (ID)

ID pass will be issued at the registration counter located at Grand Kawanua Convention Center. ID must be worn and made visible at all times.

Media Pool

In the event the space availability does not permit; a media pool may be applied. In this regard, special media passes will be issued and must be worn at all times together with ID badges.

 Media Center

The Media Center for WCRC Main Event; such as World Coral Reef Conference, World Ocean Business Forum, International Blue Carbon Symposium, Coral Reef Exhibition will be located at Grand Kawanua Convention Center and will be operational starting on the 12 May 2014 until 17 May 2014.

Media Center for WCRC Side Events such as Widya Nusantara Expedition, Journalist Writing Competition, Art and Culture and Jazz Festival, Exposé to the Result of Restoration and Rehabilitation of Coral Reef, Field Trip, Under water Photo Competition will be located at Manado Convention Center.

The Media Center will provide computers with internet access.

 Accommodation and Travel Arrangements

Media representatives will be responsible for their own travel arrangements, reservation and payments of hotel/accommodation. The media are strongly urged to make reservation as soon as possible. Information on  hotels in the vicinity can be viewed on the list attached.
